I'm blogging before work so let's get right to it. A couple weeks ago I did some rearranging around my apartment (what else is new?) and moved the chest that used to serve as a media stand in my den into my breakfast room. The TV that was once in my den is now in my bedroom, which has truly been a life changing transformation. Really helps with the Felicity watching noted above. Watching TV in your bed before bed is 1,000 times better than watching TV in the den. Those 10 or 15 steps from your couch to your bed when your eyes are drooping are just exhausting, don't you agree?
While this rearranging has been a major upgrade for my bedroom and breakfast room, the den is now seriously lacking. I have two chairs that desperately need recovering, a big empty space where the chest/media stand/TV used to be, two leopard stools that are awkwardly sitting in front of a window, and a pair of lamps that used to be on my bedroom dresser now sitting on the floor.
My solution to all of these problems? A console. Well, that and recovering the chairs in a navy velvet ASAP (plans to go look at fabrics tomorrow cross-my-fingers). The console will go where the chest/media stand/TV was before, which will eliminate the empty space. The leopard stools will now have a forever home, underneath said console. And the lamps will sit on top. Magic!
Now I just need to find a console. The perfect size would be between 50 and 70-ish inches long, 14-18 inches deep, and around 30 inches high. This one from Ikea is actually a great size, and it can be DIY upholstered (maybe in linen) or painted in a high gloss (probably not DIY, at least for me). I am leaning towards something wooden though and have found a lot of Asian inspired consoles that i think would look pretty great. I am considering having the guy who made the Restoration Hardware dresser copy one of these. That way I can customize the size (and most likely save some $$$ in the process).
Here are some of my inspirations...

Whichever console I end up choosing (if I ever choose one!), I will probably have made in a raw wood stain like the Serene & Lily Pagoda console picture above. In case that sways your decision :)
So, what say you? Which one is your fave? Have one that you like even better than the ones picture above? I am learning towards one of these (won't say which) but can certainly be swayed. Go ahead, peer pressure me!
